Obituary

Timothy S. Chase

PORT ALLEGANY- Timothy S. Chase, 65, joined his ancestors on Wednesday (Aug. 2, 2023) in the Olean General Hospital, with his family by his side, following a lengthy battle against chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.

Born on July 18, 1958, in Olean, NY, he was eldest son of Larry and Patricia Tripp Chase.

Tim had worked for Port Allegany Reporter Argus, Jaguar Manufacturing, and most recent Pierce Glass Co. (now Ardaugh) of Port Allegany, before having to retire in 2013.

His work history, though, did not define him. An avid genealogist who emphasized learning the details of how his ancestors actually lived instead of merely collecting names, dates, and places. Tim put that belief into practice in his own “dash”.

Whether his was tracing said family history or helping others with their own searches, designing and crafting various models of wooden trucks (including dozens he made and donated to the local Toys for Tots drive), building a set full moving bookcases and secret passageways for a community theater production, or putting a wrench on one of the many vintage automobiles he loved to restore and drive to car cruises and shows with his fellow gearheads. He attacked each project with the talent & passion.

Tim also prioritized giving back to his community. A former EMT and first aid/CPR instructor for the Port Area Ambulance Service, he also served on the Board of Directors for the McKean County Red Cross,  the former Port Allegany United Fund, and the Port Allegany Bicentennial Committee, among others.

Survivng in addition to his mother, Patricia Chase Dunn, of Port Allegany, are a brother, Lee A. Chase, a sister, Lori Chase, a nephew, Carter Chase all of Port Allegany; and an aunt & uncle, Gene and Myrna Tripp of Salineville, OH.

He was preceded in death by his father, brothers, Todd and Scott Chase, and stepfather, Jack Dunn.

There will be no public visitation, a private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.

Instead, we ask that anyone who knew and loved Tim, should remember him in happier times: telling stories over a cup of coffee at the round table at "The Diner", perhaps or hanging out with his friends at a cruise night.

Memorials can be made to the Port Area Ambulance Service, Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org) of a charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.

Condolences can be made to:  Lee A. Chase, 411 Wildwood Dr., Port Allegany, PA 16743.
