Glenn C. Church

SMETHPORT- Glenn C. Church, 95, of Emerald Isle, passed away Wednesday (May 4, 2022) in Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.

     Born December 29, 1926, in Bradford, he was a son of Clarence D. and Hazel I. Burdick Church.  On Nov. 14, 1947, in Farmers Valley, she married Edna Mae Covert.  She died May 4, 2018. They were married 74 years.

     Glenn was a longtime resident of the area and a graduate of Smethport Area High School, class of 1945.

     He was employed with the Everett School District #2, Everett, WA, as a heat engineer, before his retirement.

    Glenn was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army.

     He returned to the area in 2003, coming from Inverness, FL. 

     He attended the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford. 

      Glenn was a musician and played music with Happy Ed & Jack, often found at the former Myra’s Restaurant, East Smethport.

      Surviving are four daughters, Ethel L. Schmidt of Hazel Hurst, PA, Myra (Keath) Smith of Smethport, Sandra K. (James) Lasher of Eldred, Cynthia D. (Robert) Bowen, of Mt. Vernon, WA, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grand-children, 1 great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Roy C. (Dorothy) Church of Chaffee, NY; and a sister, Mary Lou Hoffman of Port Allegany; one sister-in-law, Jackie Church of Cheektowaga, NY; and several nieces and nephews. 

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edna Mae, two brothers, Ronald and Wayne Church; and two sisters, Donna Mae Fiedler and Twila B. Best. 

     Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (May 7, 2022) in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Max Simms, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Farmers Valley. 

     Memorials can be made to the Hilltop Baptist Church. 

     Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
