Darrel F. VanSickles

           PORT ALLEGANY - Darrel F. VanSickles, 80, of Pearl St., passed away Frdiay (Nov. 19, 2021) in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.

    Born July 5, 1941, in Roulette, he was a son of Benjamin Harry and Irene Kester VanSickles.  On Oct. 20, 1963, in Roulette, he married Donna M. Sherwood, who died Nov. 8, 2021. They were married 58 years.

     Darrel was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Port Allegany High School, class of 1959.  

      He was employed with the former Pittsburgh Corning Co., Port Allegany, for 39 years, retiring in 1998.

     Darrel was a member of the First Baptist Church, Port Allegany, life member of both the Port Allegany and Roulette Fire Departments, where he was active with the Fire Police. He was also a member of the Tri-County Fireman’s Association.  He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, antique automobiles, but most of all, sitting on his porch with his beloved wife, Donna.

     Surviving are four sons, Darrel F. VanSickles of Columbus, OH, Michael P. (Malinda) VanSickles of Groveport, OH, Todd L. VanSickles of Lewis Run, PA, Timothy A. (Rea Thomas) VanSickles of Cortland, NY; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie (Jesse) Hooftallen of Emporium; and a sister, Jennie Marvin of Portville, NY.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna, two brothers, Albert VanSickles, Benjamin VanSickles, Jr.; and two sisters, Katherine Green and Elaine Shavalier. 

     Due to the current uptick in pandemic circumstances, the family will hold a private viewing & funeral service in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, with Rev. Michael Culver, officiating.  Burial will be in Card Creek Cemetery, Roulette.

    Family & friends are invited to a memorial luncheon for Darrel and Donna VanSickles at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 24,2021) in the Roulette Fire Hall. 

    Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church, or the Port Allegany Fire Dept.
