Beverly J. Close

ROULETTE-Beverly J. Close, 95, of Maple St., passed away Thursday (Aug. 17, 2023) in her home, after a lengthy illness.

    Born April 6, 1928, in Port Allegany, she was a daughter of Kenneth and Lillian Coons Smith.  On Jan. 19, 1959, in Buffalo, NY, she married Herman “Jack” Close, Jr., who died July 20, 2010.

     Beverly was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of the Roulette High School, class of 1946.

     She was employed as a postal clerk in the Roulette Post Office for 25 years, before her retirement, and then spent 33 winters in Florida.

     She was a member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, Port Allegany, where she sang in the choir, and member of the Roulette Auxiliary.

     She loved singing with her husband Jack Close.

     Surviving is a brother-in-law, Douglas Gross of Conroe, TX; a nephew, William (Rose) Colwell of North East, PA; two nieces, Deana  Ostrander of Conroe, TX, and Tammy (David) Kaufman of Roulette; 3 great nieces, Becky (Nate) Evens of Port Allegany, Morgan (Fredo) Narcius of Lutz, FL, Amber (Justin) Turner of Houston, TX; 3 great nephews, Josh and Ben Price both of Roulette, and Dalton Ostrander of Conroe, TX; 7 great-great nieces and 4 great-great nephews;  and special care givers: Rhonda, Jasmine, Deb, Bambi, Joanne, and Cheli.

    Friends will be received from 10 a.m.  to 12 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 22, 2023) in the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. with Rev. Michael Culver, officiating. Burial will be in Card Creek Cemetery, Roulette.

    Memorials can be made to the Chestnut Street Baptist Church.

    Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
